Scampi generally seek refuge inside the many galleries that they dig on the seabed and come out at night to get food. In Italy they are caught in the Middle Adriatic and the Tyrrhenian Sea, generally with bottom-trawling nets.
Scampi are a type of shellfish which is very much in demand on the market and the supply from fishing often falls short of the demand.
The meat from scampi can be compared to that of lean fish as it is rich in calcium and phosphorus.
