Scientific description: Callista Chione
It lives in sandy bottoms of the Adriatic Sea. Cockles are fished using a system called: with rake or blower tube. The fishing takes place at 4 or 5 miles from the coast, at a depth ranging from 10 to 30 metres. The sand is sifted in order to find the molluscs, which are then trapped by a grid, while the sediment is thrown away.
